Bullets2Bandages

The bullet. It’s a symbol of conflict, war and death; but two men are out to challenge that perception.

Through the creation of Bullets2Bandages, ex-US Navy officers Erik Spalding and Cole Evans are taking these instruments of war and using them for a greater good. The pair create necklaces, accessories and other attire which often use demilitarised bullets as their focal point. The proceeds from these sales are then donated to the Travis Manion Foundation – which goes on to help those affected by war in America.

Here’s some of what they have to offer:

I think that both the cause and the idea are great; however, I do feel slightly perturbed by the way in which the bullets are actually used. Often it seems they are portrayed as a blatant fashion accessory (and not everyone wants to march around like Rambo).

As a result, I think their current strategy borders on glamourising the very issue they’re trying to combat; thus a more subtle approach to the bullets use would be a more effective way of promoting their cause.

Nevertheless this is just my opinion, so please feel free to leave a comment below and I’ll be sure to reply.
